NON COMMISSIONED OFFICER RANK STRUCTURE - Starfleet Standard, Enlisted Ranks Enlisting in Starfleet allows people to join Starfleet without the four years of Starfleet Academy experience which officers would receive. Instead the individual would receive one year of training, much more specialized than a Cadet would, and then are assigned to postings, where they continue to learn in the field.
FLEET RANK STRUCTURE - Starfleet Standard, Warrant Officer Ranks Upon reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer/Gunnery Sergeant the NCO can apply for Officer Training. At the next promotion the NCO is promoted to Warrant Officer, and may hold any Junior Officer position (i.e. Asst. Chief Engineer) or any specific Warrant Officer position. After that, they can be promoted to Chief Warrant Officer and may hold any Senior Officer position. Chief Warrant Officers who wish to become commissioned officers may do so through their commanding officer, who would then promote them to Lieutenant/Marine Captain.
FLEET RANK STRUCTURE - Authority Comparison As a non-commissioned officer rises in ranks, s/he becomes so experienced as to rival many lower-level officers. Also, Warrant Officers are the equivalent of lower level Commissioned Officers. A comparison chart is provided below to illustrate the relative authority of each rank. It is assumed that someone of that rank has the experience to handle that authority.
